Stark County Diaper Bank Supports Families in Need

Date posted: April 30, 2020

Stark County Diaper Bank Supports Families in Need

In the past five weeks, the Stark County Diaper Bank has distributed over 22,000 diapers to help families in need. Additional funding from Stark Community Foundation’s Immediate Impact Alert Fund and other philanthropic support helped purchase additional diapers, provided diapers to the YWCA Early Head Start program and enabled the Diaper Bank to add five temporary COVID-19 relief distributors to its existing five distribution partners.

According to the Stark County Diaper Bank, babies need an average of 8 to 10 diapers a day. Many families and working parents find themselves in need of diapers because a low-income job doesn’t cover the high cost of these products. The Diaper Bank is a team of volunteers who collect and distribute diapers so that families don’t have to make the choice between purchasing basic essential needs or diapers for their children.

Located throughout our community in convenient and accessible areas, the five temporary COVID-19 relief distributors are:

  • Bridge Point Community Services in Canton South;
  • Greater Stark County Urban League in Southeast Canton;
  • Lake Township FISH in Hartville;
  • Osnaburg Local Support in East Canton; and
  • The Bin in Sandy Valley

Bridge Point Community Services has been providing food boxes and supplies for families since early March, and have already seen the need for diapers from 10-12 families since becoming a temporary COVID-19 relief distributor.

Executive Director Jeff Franks said, “partnering with the Stark County Diaper Bank has allowed us to meet this need, as well as receive donations from those who want to help and provide diapers to the Diaper Bank.”

Diane Robinson, interim president and executive director of the Greater Stark County Urban League, agreed that she too has seen an increased need for relief.

“The families are genuinely excited about receiving the diapers. Many have shared that the Diaper Bank has allowed them to use the money that would normally be used for the purchase of diapers to purchase more food items or to pay other bills. The Stark County Diaper Bank’s contribution supports the wellbeing of Stark County’s families.”
