Stark Community Foundation Provides Support for Catholic Charities' Adult Day Services Program

Date: January 4, 2017

Stark Community Foundation recently awarded nearly $25,000 to Catholic Charities Serving Portage and Stark Counties to purchase new tables and chairs for its Adult Day Services program in Louisville, Ohio.

The Adult Day Services program offers a safe and secure environment for older adults who are in need of supervision or assistance with daily living activities while family caregivers are at work or attending to other responsibilities. The program also provides opportunities for socialization, exercise, planned activities and basic healthcare services to help individuals remain as independent as possible. Many of these daily activities take place with the adults seated.

The program has been using donated tables and chairs that are now outdated and unstable, which is what prompted Catholic Charities Serving Portage and Stark Counties to turn to Stark Community Foundation for help. While current funding covers operational expenses, it does not allow for capital upgrades needed to improve the safety and functionality of the program.

“The tables and chairs that are utilized on a daily basis needed to be replaced due to safety concerns,” said Mark J. Samolczyk, president of Stark Community Foundation. “We felt it was important to support this infrastructure upgrade in an effort to continue to provide a safe and secure environment for those in our community who take advantage of this beneficial program.”

The nearly $25,000 grant to purchase much-needed tables and chairs was provided by three charitable funds at Stark Community Foundation – The Community Charitable Fund, The Paul E. Myers Testamentary Trust Fund and The James V. and Velia Armogida Charitable Fund.
