37 Youth Summer Programs Receive Support through SummerTime Kids Program
As part of Stark Community Foundation’s SummerTime Kids initiative, nearly $70,000 in grants were awarded to area organizations to fund 37 youth summer programs in Stark County.
Earlier this year, a 14-member volunteer team from Canton Regional SCORE reviewed grant proposals from local organizations and guided foundation staff on which youth summer programs to support in 2024. Through the initiative, grants were awarded up to $2,000 to fund imaginative and unique summer programs.
Three of this year’s funded SummerTime Kids programs are led by Autism Society of Greater Akron, Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital and Sing Stark!
Autism Society of Greater Akron was awarded $2,000 for a five-day iCan Bike Camp at Jackson High School to teach Stark County individuals of different abilities, aged eight and older, how to ride a two-wheel bicycle independently.
Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital was awarded $1,919 for its one-week All Sports Camp for third and fourth graders from Patrick Elementary School, where students will learn about exercise, nutrition, healthy living, reading skills, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Sing Stark! was awarded $2,000 for Aca-Academy Jr. Camp, a week-long, immersive acapella program designed for Stark County middle schoolers to enhance their vocal abilities, build confidence and relationships and develop life skills like teamwork, communication and creative expression.
