Stark Community Foundation is offering free community access to the Racial Equity Institute’s virtual Groundwater workshop on Tuesday, September 7 from 1 – 4 p.m. through Zoom.
The Groundwater workshop is a three-hour introduction to racial equity where participants will deepen their understanding of structural racism and racial disparities. The workshop uses stories and data to present a perspective that shows how racism is fundamentally structural in nature. By examining characteristics of modern-day racial inequity, the workshop introduces participants to an analysis that most find immediately helpful and relevant.
An average of 87% of recent participants said they would very likely recommend the workshop to others. One participant said, “I loved how the data was presented and being able to see concrete reasons that destroy so many stereotypes that people use to excuse racial disparities." Another participant commented, “It was insightful and well worth the time.”
Offering the Groundwater workshop is part of Stark Community Foundation’s commitment to advancing racial equity and inclusion in Stark County and in response to top community needs identified during 2020's THINKBIG. THINKBIG is a county-wide community conversation designed to bring residents together in small groups to brainstorm solutions to community needs. The Foundation listened to last year’s participants about ways to move Stark County forward and is offering the Groundwater workshop once every quarter in 2021.
The upcoming workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required and capacity is limited. No recording of the virtual workshop will be available.
