Massillon Charitable Funds Awards Nearly $25,000 to Local Organizations

Two charitable funds at Stark Community Foundation – The Massillon Community Charitable Fund and The Arthur P. Underhill and Martha Q. Underhill Charitable Fund – recently awarded 10 grants totaling nearly $25,000 to local organizations serving the Massillon community. The grants were presented at a gathering at the Massillon WestStark Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s grant recipients include:

  • Domestic Violence Project, Inc. – $2,885 to purchase new dressers for its shelter in Massillon
  • Massillon Knights Foundation – $3,000 to replace an ice machine integral to its free meal program for needy individuals and families in Massillon
  • Massillon Museum – $4,000 to purchase tables and chairs for its new event space
  • Massillon Public Library – $2,000 to purchase laptops for its portable lab used to teach public computer classes throughout the community
  • Northwest Firefighters Association – $1,550 to purchase two racks designed for hanging and protecting fire equipment and clothing
  • Refuge of Hope – $1,000 to purchase much-needed items for men staying in its emergency and transitional housing shelter
  • Salvation Army of Massillon – $2,000 to upgrade its communication system that receives nearly 60,000 phone calls each year
  • Siffrin, Inc. – $2,269 to install a chairlift that would allow an intellectual developmentally disabled person in Massillon to remain in their home
  • VANTAGE Aging – $3,982 to purchase coolers, containers and can openers for Meals on Wheels of Northeast Ohio
  • YMCA of Western Stark County – $2,000 to improve the overall safety, appearance and comfort of the Massillon YMCA

Massillon Community Charitable Fund was created in 1982 when a group of civic leaders in Massillon came together to create a charitable legacy that would strengthen their community for years to come. For more than 35 years, generous individuals, families and businesses have financially supported the fund, collectively making a difference in the Massillon area. Through their estate, the late Arthur P. and Martha Q. Underhill established a charitable fund at Stark Community Foundation that would benefit Massillon organizations in perpetuity. The Underhills entrusted the Massillon Community Charitable Fund to recommend areas of support from the dollars available from their fund at the Foundation.
