Health Foundation of Greater Massillon Announces Health and Wellness Grants

Health Foundation of Greater Massillon (HFGM), a supporting foundation of Stark Community Foundation, recently awarded more than $200,000 to local organizations to strategically address health and wellness issues facing residents living in Western Stark, Northern Tuscarawas and Eastern Wayne counties.

Grants awarded during HFGM’s spring 2017 cycle include:

AHEAD Inc. – $16,650 to hire a part-time behavioral coach to work with students at three Massillon elementary schools

Arc of Ohio Stark County – $5,250 to provide scholarships fr Western Stark County children to attend summer camp

Aultman College of Nursing and Health Science – $5,000 to provide scholarships for two students from Western Stark County, Northern Tuscarawas and/or Eastern Wayne counties

Boys & Girls Club of Massillon – $35,000 to hire a fitness instructor, life skill instructor and social recreation instructor to manage an influx of middle and high school students attending afterschool programs

City of Massillon – $7,100 to purchase four AED units

Domestic Violence Project – $20,412 to provide life skills education at Tuslaw Middle School

Faith in Action of Western Stark County – $25,000 to provide transportation and friendly visitor and respite services for senior residents

Girls on the Run of Stark County – $4,950 to support curriculum, healthy snacks and 5K t-shirts for programs in both Wayne and Western Stark County

Kent State University at Stark – $5,000 to provide scholarships to Massillon students pursuing health-related degrees

Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties – $5,388 to purchase new shelving units for its commissary

Mercy Medical Center – $14,992 to implement a summer dental screening day and follow-up care at Boys & Girls Club of Massillon

Pathway Caring for Children – $7,450 to send at-risk and trouble adolescents to T.R.U.S.T Camp

Prescription Assistance Network – $14,613 to provide pharmacy access and medication to Western Stark County residents

Stark State College Foundation – $5,000 to provide 10 scholarships to students from Western Stark County, Northern Tuscarawas and/or Eastern Wayne counties enrolled in a health-related program

Walsh University – $5,000 to provide a scholarship to two Western Stark County students who are pursuing a health-related degree

YMCA of Western Stark County – $25,000 to provide financial assistance for individuals and families who cannot afford the cost of a YMCA membership or program

HFGM awards grants annually to local organizations to improve the health and wellness of individuals and families living in Western Stark, Northern Tuscarawas and Eastern Wayne counties. A board of directors, made up of local active and retired business professionals, reviews grants proposals and makes all funding decisions. To date, HFGM has invested more than $3.5 million in innovative health and wellness programs and initiatives in the community.
