Two Massillon Charitable Funds Partner to Make a Positive Impact in Western Stark County

Two charitable funds at Stark Community Foundation – Massillon Community Charitable Fund and Arthur P. Underhill and Martha Q. Underhill Charitable Fund – recently awarded 10 grants totaling nearly $30,000 to area organizations serving the Massillon community.

CommQuest Services – $2,000 to purchase furniture for its new female residential facility dedicated to serving women from Western Stark County who struggle with substance abuse disorder, located on the first floor of the Family Living Center

Early Childhood Resource Center – $1,200 to support its Parent Cafés in Western Stark County. The Cafés are a series of structured small group conversations that bring parents, caregivers, guardians and family members together to discuss parenting issues

Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio – $2,000 to help one local family build a home in Massillon

JRC Adult Day Services – $432 to create a dedicated member computer station where seniors can use a computer to stay in touch with long-distance family members through Skype, social media and email

Massillon Knights Foundation – $4,000 to replace two walk-in coolers and one freezer in order to efficiently and safely continue offering its hot lunch program

Massillon Public Library – $3,383 to purchase 12 tablets for young, local patrons to use in the library

Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties – $4,000 to purchase functional and reliable commercial-grade equipment in order to continue serving meals to nutritionally at-risk clients

Prescription Assistance Network of Stark County – $4,000 to provide 8-10 individuals with an inhaler to help treat respiratory issues and maintain a healthy lifestyle

Salvation Army of Massillon –$4,000 to purchase a wireless PA system for its multi-purpose room

YMCA of Western Stark County – $4,000 to renovate and improve its pre-school/children area

These local organizations will be honored at a breakfast on June 9 at Massillon Eagles #190, located at 303 Weirich Boulevard NW. The breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. and the program and awards will begin at 8 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Alexandra Nicholis Coon, executive director of Massillon Museum.

The cost to attend is $10 and all are welcome. Checks should be made payable to Massillon Community Charitable Fund and mailed to 311 Erie Street N, Massillon, Ohio 44646 by June 2. For more information, call 330-833-3146.

Massillon Community Charitable Fund was created in 1982 when a group of civic leaders in Massillon came together to create a charitable legacy that would strengthen their community for years to come. Arthur P. Underhill and Martha Q. Underhill Charitable Fund
Through their estate, the late Arthur P. and Martha Q. Underhill established a charitable fund at Stark Community Foundation that would benefit Massillon organizations in perpetuity. The Underhills entrusted the Massillon Community Charitable Fund to recommend areas of support from the dollars available from their fund at the Foundation.
