Learn about the generous donors who have established charitable funds through Stark Community Foundation.
Stark Community Foundation recently announced more than $350,000 in grants to support community organizations that offer much-needed services and programs to Stark County residents.
Three organizations receiving funding during the Foundation’s first discretionary grant cycle include MAPS Air Museum, Stark County Historical Society and YMCA of Western Stark County.
MAPS Air Museum was awarded $15,000 to support its 2016-2017 educational programming. The museum will receive $10,000 outright, and $5,000 is contingent on MAPS raising funds from individual donors. During the academic year, MAPS will coordinate and support a no-cost visit to the museum for Stark County high schools and middle schools, specifically for history and STEM programs. In preparation for their visit, a media package will be sent to each school that focuses on three Ohio State Standards. Guided tours, which are designed to support the three standards, will be given during the schools’ visits.
Stark County Historical Society received $10,000 for the benefit of the McKinley Presidential Library and Museum. By transitioning a part-time staff member to a full-time position in Discover World, the museum will be able to meet the growing demand of attendance at its interactive science center.
YMCA of Western Stark County was awarded $10,000 to provide easy access to the YMCA for everyone, further improving the overall health and quality of life for the residents of Western Stark County. This grant will allow for those who aren’t able to pay for membership the ability to still participate in the YMCA’s programs and utilize its services.

Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio, for improving the health and wellness of individuals with disabilities in Stark County, $5,000
Alliance for Children and Families, for the B-FIRST Permanent Supportive Housing Project (Better-Families, Intact, Residing Successfully Together), $50,000
Artful Living Program, to support its integrated preschool classes, $20,000
Canton Montessori School, to renovate practical life areas in all its classrooms, $15,000
Canton Symphony Orchestra, to serve 800 Stark County Head Start students in two early childhood program opportunities, $12,500
Children’s Dyslexia Centers of Canton, to sponsor a child (or children) diagnosed with dyslexia to receive specialized instruction, $10,000
Coleman Professional Services, to develop independent apartments for transition age young adults, $50,000
Community Legal Aid Services Inc., to provide legal services to low-income and elderly Stark County residents whose housing is threatened, $20,000
Community Services of Stark County, Inc., to expand its office space for the CommQuest facility in downtown Massillon, $25,000
Dueber United Methodist Church, to support its Dueber Kids Club Program, $10,000
Massillon Museum, to engage 10 artists from across Ohio to reinterpret two objects from the museum’s collection into a new work of art, $5,000
Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach, to provide free guitar and violin lessons to students in the Northwest Local Schools who otherwise would not be able to afford the lessons, $3,000
Prevent Blindness, to serve medically underserved Stark County children, $2,500
RePlay for Kids, to provide adapted toys to children from low-income families with disabilities in Stark County, $4,000
Salvation Army – Alliance, to provide operating support for its Emergency Social Services Program, $15,000
TomTod Ideas, to help students launch specific ideas for the common good, $6,675
Village of Magnolia, to purchase basic and advance emergency preparedness items for the Magnolia Police Department, contingent upon the village securing matching funds, $5,000
Western Reserve Public Media, to create a 60-minute documentary for PBS on the life and career of Congressman Ralph Regula, $13,000. An additional $54,000 was awarded from The Ralph Regula Documentary Fund at the Foundation.
