Five organizations fighting hunger in Stark County

Area organizations are working together to combat hunger in Stark County.

According to a 2015 report from the Stark Community Foundation, more than 57,000 people in Stark County — about 15 percent of the population — are food insecure. That means they don't have regular access to the food needed to live a healthy, active lifestyle. More than 20,000 of those facing hunger are children.

The Foundation mobilized to change those statistics. Together with The Paul and Carol David Foundation and Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton, it awarded nearly $250,000 in food security grants to six area organizations in August 2015.

On Wednesday, those organizations gave an update on their work at the Future of Food Security Forum at Walsh University.
