Future of Food Security Forum Planned for May 25

Stark Community Foundation will convene a Future of Food Security Forum on May 25 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Barrette Center at Walsh University.

Taking a proactive approach to address food security in the county, Stark Community Foundation released a report that examined hunger issues as well as identified resources and opportunities in order to feed those in Stark County. In August 2015, the Foundation, Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton and the Paul & Carol David Foundation made initial investments in the future of food security in Stark County by awarding nearly $250,000 in planning and implementation grants.

Representatives from the first round of grant funding will give a brief update on their progress to finding long-term solutions to hunger. These organizations include planning grant recipients Alliance Community Pantry and Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and implementation grant recipients Minerva United Methodist Church, Stark County Hunger Task Force and Walsh University. In addition, Stark Community Foundation will announce its future investment in this area.

The forum is open to the public. To RSVP, contact Sue Warne at swarne@starkcf.org by May 18, 2016.

Information about the next round of Future of Food Security funding can be found online. Applications are due by June 17.
