“Leading Canton Ballet through this historic 60th anniversary season is truly an honor and incredibly meaningful,” said Jennifer Catazaro Hayward, director of the Canton Ballet. “It’s given me a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the remarkable journey of the past six decades and the enduring legacy we’ve built together.”
That legacy takes center stage this season with performances that honor the past and embrace the future—from cherished classics like The Nutcracker to new works, including The Greatest of All Time.
The season officially kicks off in October with Peter & the Wolf, accompanied live by 36 Canton Symphony Orchestra musicians. For the first time, public performances of this piece will be offered at Umstattd Hall and narrated by a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
The ballet remains committed to providing valuable artistic experiences to the community––a mission sustained by the continuous support of those who have stood behind the organization every step of the way.
“Canton Ballet’s six-decade journey has certainly been shaped by the support of our community,” said Hayward. “That includes parents who entrust the organization with their children’s artistic growth, volunteers who give generously of their time, and audiences whose applause fills each performance.”
Ongoing partnerships and donor support—including Stark Community Foundation, ArtsinStark, the Canton Symphony Orchestra and Canton Museum of Art, where the ballet will perform during an exhibit in November—are helping bring the season’s works to life.
“The flourishing arts seen in Canton are a direct testament to this incredible partnership and shared passion,” Hayward. “Simply put, Canton support is why we are still here today.”
Reflecting on what makes this season especially meaningful, Hayward pointed to the dancers themselves as a constant source of inspiration.
“Witnessing their dedication, growth and the sheer beauty they create through their art is breathtaking,” she said. “Every day I get to see their passion come alive, and that’s a constant source of inspiration for me.”
The 60th season marks more than a celebration. It’s a chance to welcome new faces and reconnect with the community.
“If you’ve never experienced the magic of Canton Ballet live, this year is the perfect opportunity to discover it,” Hayward said. “We’ve curated a season that truly offers something for everyone—from timeless classics to exciting new works, performances designed to delight audiences of all ages.”
Hayward reflected on her personal connection to this monumental year.
“It comes down to being able to do what I love every single day. Waking up and leading an organization I’m so deeply passionate about, especially during such a significant year, feels like a true gift. It’s rewarding to be at the helm of something so special, celebrating its past while building its future,” she added. “It truly feels like I’m a thread in a much larger, beautiful tapestry.
