Here are 5 tips to keep in mind when completing your Stark Community Foundation scholarship application.
1. Don't wait until the last minute. Procrastinators, beware! It can be painfully obvious when a scholarship application was thrown together last minute. Start working on your essays early and give yourself plenty of time to gather the required information needed for your application.
2. Ask for feedback. Your answers give reviewers a sense of who you are and what you envision for your future – don't let grammar and spelling mistakes distract from your message. Teachers, parents and friends make great proofreaders, but don't let them do the work for you!
3. Be honest and detailed. Our scholarship application gives you many opportunities to explain your background, your goals and why you need financial assistance. Expand on your accomplishments, but don't exaggerate them.
4. Follow up with your references. Our Online Scholarship Portal requires that reference questionnaires be submitted by the application deadline (for most this is April 1) in order for your application to be complete. Encourage your references (guidance counselors, teachers, administrators, employers, volunteer coordinators, etc.) to submit their questionnaires as early as possible. Be sure to thank them for taking their time to help you.
5. Make sure your ducks are all in a row. Double and triple check that you answered each question correctly because depending on your answers, our Online Scholarship Portal will automatically match you with scholarships for which you qualify. After you submit your General Scholarship Application, you can apply for other scholarships that require additional information (essay, series of questions, etc.). Once you submit a scholarship application, you CANNOT make changes.
