Scholarships
Established 2001
As a gift through her estate Alice Foit created this fund to assist individuals who are high school graduates or seniors residing in Carroll County or in German Township, Harrison County, Ohio; have demonstrated involvement, both in extracurricular activities or community and religious activities, and intend to live in and work in either Carroll or Harrison County for a minimum of two years after completion of their education.
Established 1994
This scholarship fund was established in 1961 through the will of August M. Rocco, a former Canton grocer. Assets were transferred in 1994 to Stark Community Foundation. Recipients must be graduates of Canton Central Catholic High School or St. Thomas Aquinas High School and attending the University of Notre Dame. Established 1997
Accepting a trust from Citizens National Bank, the Foundation created this fund in accordance with wishes stated in the will of Bill McCarthy, who passed away in 1979. Each year the fund provides scholastic aid for the first year of college for a Boy Scout from a troop in the Tuslaw District. Recipients must have attained at least the rank of a First Class Scout and rank among the highest ten boys in his high school graduating class.
Brookside Country Club Education TrustEstablished 1985
Special members' events at Brookside Country Club benefit this fund which provides college scholarships for caddies and other young employees of the club as recommended by a scholarship committee.
Canton Professional Educators Association Scholarship FundEstablished 1994
The Canton Professional Educators Association created this permanent fund from which scholarships can be awarded to members, dependents and students of McKinley and Timken High Schools.
Established 2001
Community leader Chester Seran created this Scholarship Fund in his and his wife's name in 1963 to assist applicants in obtaining a college education, "thereby raising the intellectual and moral leadership of the donor's church and community." Preference is given to applicants who are members of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church entering Christian service and attending Otterbein College. During his lifetime, Mr. Seran was an active participant in the selection of scholarship recipients. Since his death, the Selection Committee continues the purpose of the fund in his memory.
Established 1999
Formerly the Nurse Anesthesia Scholarship, this fund was renamed in 2000 to honor Dale O. Heimberger, CRNA, a dedicated nurse Anesthetist. Qualified applicants are Ohio residents with scholastic aptitude and demonstrated financial need who are pursuing college-level study in nurse anesthesia at an Ohio school.
David A. and Pamela A. Gault Charitable FundEstablished 1998
Income from this fund is to provide merit scholarships for Stark County students attending either Otterbein College or Walsh University. Recipients must have completed at least a year of study toward either a graduate or undergraduate degree and plan to pursue a career in business.
Don and Madalyn Sickafoose Educational TrustEstablished 1982
Philanthropists Don and Madalyn Sickafoose from Magnolia established this fund. Income from the trust is used to make educational loans to deserving students residing in southeastern Stark County, northwestern Carroll County, and northern Tuscarawas County. A selection committee of three members makes award recommendations to Stark Community Foundation's Distribution Committee. Madalyn Sickafoose died in 1990.
Dr. James H. Heckaman Memorial Scholarship FundEstablished 1997
Mrs. Patricia Heckaman and daughters Tammy, Kelly, Shannon, and Holly established this scholarship fund as a memorial to Dr. Heckaman, a local dermatologist who died in 1996. Income from this fund provides annual scholarship awards for educational expenses for college-level study to graduates of Hoover High School in North Canton, as recommended by Hoover High School Selection Committee.
